Koei Tecmo filed a civil lawsuit for copyright infringement on its Dead or Alive franchise against an unnamed modder. This action comes after an unauthorized DVD containing modified footage of the game was created and sold.
The creator of the video recorded in-game content from various Koei Tecmo sources, including 2017’s Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation, and attempted to modify the content by removing characters’ clothing.
The usage and sale of the DVD falls under copyright infringement, giving the game company the right to a civil lawsuit. Koei Tecmo, headquartered in Yokohama, has reported the case to the local Kanagawa Prefectural Police. A suspect has been identified.
