Awesome Games Done Quick, the annual speedrunning marathon benefiting the Prevent Cancer Foundation, finished its 2021 campaign with nearly $3 million raised.

AGDQ 2021 raised $2,758,847 over the week-long marathon, which began on Jan. 3 and finished early on Sunday morning.

AGDQ 2021 marked the fourth fully-online marathon event for the Games Done Quick organization, following Corona Games Done Quick in April, Summer Games Done Quick 2020 in August and the all-female marathon Fleet Fatales in November. The $2.8 million raised is the most of the four online marathons, followed by Summer Games Done Quick 2020’s $2.4 million.

Highlights of this year’s marathon included back-to-back world records in two Sonic the Hedgehog games, a blindfolded run of Super Mario 64, a Beat Saber showcase marking only the second appearance of virtual reality at a GDQ event and a run of Celeste using a Dance Dance Revolution dance pad.

Games Done Quick marathons support multiple charities throughout the year, including the Prevent Cancer Foundation, Doctors Without Borders and AbleGamers. Since the group’s first marathon, Classic Games Done Quick in January 2010, it has raised over $31 million in total donations.
