Alex Berg is a host, producer and journalist covering national news and stories that impact the lives of women and LGBTQ+ people.
Alex is presently the co-host of the I’m From Driftwood Podcast, a weekly series highlighting queer and trans individuals and issues in their communities. For the past 11 years, I’m From Driftwood has been archiving stories across the country. On the podcast, Alex interviews newsmakers and longtime activists, and discusses topics from bisexual erasure to immigration to addiction among LGBTQ+ people.
Alex was recently a host of AM to DM, a daily morning show from BuzzFeed News. Dubbed “the millennial Today show,” AM to DM featured interviews with newsmakers and celebrities, and covered stories generated by conversations happening in real time on Twitter. On the show, Alex interviewed Oscar-winners like Lupita Nyong’o and Julie Andrews, presidential candidates and lawmakers, and even all 8 of the Spelling Bee champions at once.
From asking Benedict Cumberbatch about an all-female Marvel movie to discussing the lack of diversity in the Democratic presidential field with Senator Cory Booker, Alex’s coverage regularly made headlines at an array of outlets including CNN, People, The Hill, Politico, and more. In 2020, AM to DM was an honoree in the Webby’s News & Politics category.
Throughout her decade-long career as a journalist, Alex has covered stories that explore how policy and politics impact the lives of marginalized communities. She’s worn a lot of hats, though. Alex hosted a dating show for Elite Daily that received over 8 million views and has been highlighted for her personal style and funky hair.
In addition to hosting, Alex frequently writes about topics like reproductive health care, queer culture, and individuals challenging the status quo for outlets like NBC News, Teen Vogue and OUT Magazine, and regularly joins SiriusXM to discuss politics and feminism. Previously, Alex hosted a special series for SiriusXM Progress called The Issues, about political topics impacting the 2020 primaries, was a correspondent for the Mic series Mic Dispatch, where she hosted short documentaries airing on Facebook Watch, served as a supervising producer for AM to DM, was a producer and appeared on-air at HuffPost and was an associate producer at The Daily Beast.
As a proud bisexual femme, Alex has been featured on shows, podcasts and panels, and her coverage of LGBTQ issues has been nominated for a GLAAD Media Award. She holds an M.S. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a B.A. from Cornell University. Alex lives with her wife and three cats and skates with Gotham Girls Roller Derby in her free time.
